This is a joke I make a lot, but the tipping point was
reading Jane Friedman’s advice: “You have to go through rounds of revisions and
will likely have to change things you don’t want to change. But you must
approach the process like a professional, not a creative artist.”
So here’s a
facile graph of industry advice I’ve received over the years.
That is a great visual. Maybe I'm kind of old and just settling for less as a writer, but it seems to me that little pieces of good ideas, like this one, flow out into the world in ways that could be more influential than you will ever know.
