On a good day:
Die Hard is an awesome movie.
No Country for Old Men is a profoundly well-made movie.
On a bad day:
Die Hard is an awesome movie.
No Country for Old Men can go fuck it self.
When a relative has just died:
No Country for Old Men just seems like a bad idea.
I wish these mourners would get out of my house so I could watch Die Hard.
In an academic setting:
No Country for Old Men is the stripe of movie that’s safe to say I like.
Die Hard is the stripe of movie that, if a professor insults, I’ll immediately hate him.
Regardless:
No Country for Old Men is based on a book it seems like no one has read.
Die Hard is based on a book it seems like no one has read.
I will watch Die Hard with you, all the way to the end, one of these days!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to that day.
DeleteDid you realize (and of course you did) that Die Hard is on TV in at least one of its versions, 24 hours a day?
ReplyDeleteJohn! Can you get rid of the annoying screen captchas? Blogger has changed them and they are SO annoying!!!! (Almost as annoying as No Country For Old Men.. but you know what? I actually liked that movie. Loved the Sheriff character)
Thy will is done.
DeleteCathy is so right!
ReplyDeleteI prefer Die Hard too...
All very true statements, except I think No Country For Old Men, while well made, go fuck itself just about any day.
ReplyDeleteAnd the new Blogger captchas can go fuck themselves too.
John, have you read Blood Meridian? Apparently a movie is forthcoming. I'd like to see how anyone makes that McCarthy tale work on screen. The book is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteActually, No Country for Old Men is the only McCarthy book I've read. The Road is on my shelf, but I keep having false-starts with it as those opening chapters keep reading so forced. Especially with my reading list, I can't in good conscience pick up a third McCarthy novel without reading the second, you know?
