Bathroom Haiku: The Perfect Haiku

The perfect haiku
blowhard prof says I can’t write it
‘cause I can’t count

  1. I used my fingers to make sure your syllable count was correct.

  2. I think you can count, you just can't divide. :D

  3. Haha, excellent!

Although, I have to say I didn't check for the metrics. :P

  4. I think you neither you nor Li can count. Of course, my poetic sister says they don't have to be 5/7/5 anymore...WTF?

  5. Hah! That's like one I wrote long ago:

    I said to my son:
    “You must understand the rules
    To break them right.”

Danni, relaxing the 5/7/5 "rule" is based on the idea that Japanese doesn't use syllables exactly the same way English does, so getting it close is the point. There's also a "cutting word" concept in Japanese that can only be expressed via punctuation in English. Haiku is one of those things that are simple on the surface but really complex underneath.

  6. Odd, this is the fourth haiku I've read today. LOL
